The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced that all players must undergo mandatory fitness assessments before being granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, which is scheduled to begin on March 28.
This decision comes in light of several Sri Lankan cricketers, selected by various IPL franchises, currently being in recovery from injuries. The fitness tests aim to ensure that only players who meet the board’s required physical standards are cleared to take the field in the high-intensity tournament.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the evaluations are expected to take place early next week in Colombo. Players who fail to meet the fitness benchmarks will not receive the necessary NOC, effectively barring them from participating in the season.
The SLC’s move underscores its commitment to player health and performance, while ensuring that franchises have access to fully fit athletes for one of the most competitive cricket leagues in the world.
