Directed and written by Rahul, The Girlfriend features an ensemble cast including Dheekshith Shetty and Anu Emmanuel. In the film, Rashmika, Dheekshith, and Anu portray the college students Bhooma, Vicky, and Durga.

The story centres on the troubled relationship between Bhooma and Vicky, as Bhooma gradually realises she is caught in a toxic partnership. Despite receiving mixed critical reviews, the film managed to collect approximately Rs 29.08 crore worldwide at the box office.

In addition to writing and directing the film, Rahul also appeared in a supporting role as a professor.
