The government of Sri Lanka has initiated legal proceedings following a recent financial fraud incident involving unauthorized access to the computer systems of the Department of External Resources under the Ministry of Finance.
Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya confirmed that investigations are already in progress, with authorities working alongside international partners to strengthen the probe and identify those responsible for the breach.
As part of the ongoing investigation, Australia has expressed its willingness to assist Sri Lanka. The offer of support was communicated through the Australian High Commissioner, highlighting cooperation between the two nations in addressing cyber and financial security concerns.
The Prime Minister also addressed recent political criticism surrounding the incident, accusing opposition groups of attempting to destabilize the government through what she described as unfounded allegations against ministers.
She emphasized the importance of a responsible opposition in a democratic system, but noted that current actions appear disconnected from public expectations. According to her, certain political actors are attempting to gain power through misleading claims rather than constructive engagement.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations progress, with international collaboration expected to play a key role in resolving the case.
