The INS Nireekshak of the Indian Navy arrived in Sri Lanka on April 21 for an Operational Turnaround (OTR) and training visit, strengthening ongoing maritime cooperation between the two neighbouring nations.
The vessel was formally received by the Sri Lanka Navy at the Port of Colombo, where traditional naval courtesies were observed to welcome the visiting ship.
Commanded by Commander Sailesh Kumar Tyagi, INS Nireekshak is a specialised diving support vessel equipped to assist in underwater operations, salvage missions, and diver training. During its stay, which is scheduled to continue until April 26, the ship will play a key role in enhancing technical collaboration between the two navies.
A comprehensive training programme has been planned, focusing on professional exchange between Indian Navy personnel and Sri Lanka Navy divers. These sessions are expected to improve operational capabilities, particularly in areas such as underwater exploration, rescue techniques, and maritime safety.
In addition to official engagements, the ship’s crew will participate in a series of events organised by the Sri Lanka Navy, aimed at fostering goodwill and cultural exchange. The visiting sailors are also expected to explore several popular tourist destinations across the island, offering them a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s rich heritage and scenic attractions.
The visit of INS Nireekshak underscores the strong defence ties and growing maritime partnership between Sri Lanka and India, highlighting their shared commitment to regional security and cooperation in the Indian Ocean.
