Prime Minister Harini to Represent Sri Lanka at Oxford Forum in UK

Harini Amarasuriya has left for an official visit to the United Kingdom to take part in the 22nd Annual Commonwealth Education Forum and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) 2026 Board of Governors Meeting.

According to the Prime Minister’s Media Division, the visit includes a series of high-level diplomatic and academic engagements aimed at enhancing cooperation in education, research, and development studies, as well as strengthening international partnerships.

During the trip, the Prime Minister is scheduled to meet UK Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson at the UK Department for Education. Discussions are expected to focus on expanding collaboration in the education sector and related policy areas.

She is also set to hold talks with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on broader bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.

On the sidelines of the Commonwealth Education Forum and the COL Board of Governors Meeting, Amarasuriya is expected to meet Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

Her itinerary also includes participation in an event at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, along with attendance at its 60th anniversary celebrations.

Additionally, she is scheduled to deliver an address at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies at the University of Oxford, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session with academics and students.

The Prime Minister’s Media Division stated that the visit is expected to further strengthen Sri Lanka’s engagement with global academic institutions, development partners, and Commonwealth member states, particularly in the areas of education, research, policy dialogue, and capacity building.
