Bairaha Farms PLC has marked a major achievement in corporate sustainability by becoming one of Sri Lanka’s leading poultry producers to obtain Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Verification at the organisational level with a “reasonable level of assurance” under the ISO 14064 framework.
The ISO 14064 verification process includes two assurance levels, with “reasonable assurance” recognised as the more stringent and comprehensive standard. By securing this higher level of verification, Bairaha Farms has demonstrated a strong commitment to accuracy, transparency, and accountability in its carbon emissions reporting, positioning the company among the leaders in climate responsibility within Sri Lanka’s poultry industry.
The verification confirms that the company’s greenhouse gas disclosures were prepared in accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018 — the internationally accepted standard for measuring and reporting organisational greenhouse gas emissions and removals — and independently verified under ISO 14064-3:2019.
The certification was issued by the Sri Lanka Climate Fund operating under the Ministry of Environment, making Bairaha Farms the only poultry company in Sri Lanka to achieve this recognition through the Ministry’s framework.
The official certificate was presented earlier this year at the Ministry of Environment Secretary’s Office by Secretary to the Ministry of Environment and Chairman of the Sri Lanka Climate Fund, K. R. Uduwawala, in the presence of senior representatives from both organisations.
Representatives attending the event included Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Sri Lanka Climate Fund Harshani Abeyrathna, Assistant Manager – Project and Quality Management Yashodha Lekamge, and Project Executive Madhubhashini Gunathilaka.
Commenting on the achievement, Managing Director Yakooth Naleem described the verification as a defining milestone for the company, highlighting the importance of transparency and accountability in responsible business leadership.
He noted that as Bairaha Farms celebrates 50 years of serving Sri Lanka, the certification reinforces the company’s commitment to building a more sustainable future while supporting both local communities and international partners.
The recognition comes at a time when global markets are increasingly prioritising traceable and environmentally responsible supply chains. Industry observers say the certification strengthens Bairaha Farms’ position as a credible partner for international buyers and regulatory stakeholders while aligning the company with evolving Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) expectations and Sri Lanka’s commitments under the Paris Agreement.
The company stated that while the certification represents a significant milestone in improving emissions visibility and sustainability standards across its value chain, it is also part of a broader long-term journey toward building a more transparent, resilient, and climate-conscious business model.
