Former Cabinet Minister and senior Southern politician Mahinda Wijesekara passed away this morning (02) at the age of 83.
Wijesekara had been battling health issues for several years, which followed injuries he sustained during an LTTE terrorist bombing in Godapitiya, Matara.
Throughout his political career, Wijesekara held multiple ministerial positions, including Minister of Postal and Telecommunication Services in 2008 and Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources from 2001 to 2004.
He served in Parliament for more than 20 years, representing parties such as the People’s Alliance, the United National Party, and the United People’s Freedom Alliance.
