Iran Looks to India’s Diplomacy to Help Ease Escalating Tensions

Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, Iran’s Supreme Leader’s representative in India, on Monday highlighted the severe global impact of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, citing rising prices for oil, gas, and shipping. He stressed that international leaders must unite to persuade US President Donald Trump to bring an end to the hostilities.

“Every country can play a role in stopping this war,” Ilahi said. “Given the growing economic and humanitarian consequences, it is vital for world leaders to come together and urge President Trump to act.”

Ilahi also praised India’s diplomatic efforts, noting that New Delhi could play an even greater role in mediating peace. “Indian diplomacy is strong and effective. The country has the potential to contribute more significantly in resolving this issue,” he stated.

The remarks follow a recent statement from President Trump, who called on Iran to reopen the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, describing the escalation as a “serious mistake.” Trump urged global leaders to intervene and encouraged diplomatic efforts to halt the conflict.

Commenting on Trump’s unusually sharp language, Ilahi observed, “A person’s speech reflects their character, morality, and humanity. Using harsh words is a reflection of their personality—though many American senators have distanced themselves from such language.”

Earlier today, Trump warned Iran on Truth Social, setting a firm deadline for Tehran to comply regarding the Strait of Hormuz and threatening serious consequences if they fail.

Ilahi concluded by emphasizing the need for global cooperation, noting that the international community must work together to prevent further human suffering as the conflict in the West Asia and Gulf region enters its second month.
