Chocolate Heist! 12 Tons of KitKat Bars Missing Across Europe, Says Nestlé

In a shocking chocolate heist, 12 tons of KitKat bars were stolen from a truck in Europe, raising concerns about potential shortages just ahead of Easter.

The Swiss food giant Nestlé, owner of the popular KitKat brand, confirmed that a shipment containing 413,793 units of its latest chocolate range went missing during transit last week while traveling between production and distribution facilities.

A company spokesperson humorously noted that while KitKat encourages people to “have a break,” thieves appear to have taken the phrase literally, walking away with over 12 tons of chocolate.

According to Nestlé, the stolen truck had departed from a factory in central Italy and was en route to Poland when it disappeared. Both the vehicle and its cargo remain unaccounted for.

Authorities are investigating the incident, with Nestlé working closely with local law enforcement and supply chain partners to track down the missing chocolate bars. The company warned that the stolen shipment could lead to temporary shortages on store shelves and might even enter unofficial sales channels in European markets.

To assist in recovery, each KitKat bar carries a unique batch code, allowing authorities and Nestlé to trace the stolen products. If a match is detected, the company will provide instructions on how to alert them and report the evidence appropriately.

Despite the theft, KitKat reassured consumers that there are no safety concerns, and overall supply remains unaffected, according to an official statement on X (formerly Twitter).

The incident underscores the challenges faced by supply chains for popular consumer goods, particularly during peak holiday periods when demand for chocolate is high.
