Walk to Equality: A Bold Step Toward Celebrating True Beauty

In a groundbreaking celebration of diversity and inclusion, Walk Model Academy, in collaboration with Cinnamon Grand Colombo, presents Walk to Equality—a fashion show that transcends traditional boundaries to spotlight individuals often marginalised by society.

Taking place on 19 May at 7:30 p.m., this extraordinary runway will feature 74 courageous individuals, many living with conditions such as Down syndrome, Autism, or identifying across the LGBTQ+ spectrum. United under the powerful theme “Life Without Labels,” they will walk with pride, defying outdated notions of beauty and showcasing strength, confidence, and authenticity.

Director Caroline Jurie, former Mrs. World 2020, called the event “a runway of purpose,” emphasizing that true beauty stems from resilience and purpose, not perfection. “These participants are the heart of a movement that redefines beauty with every step they take,” she stated at a recent press conference.

The event is the vision of Walk Model Academy Founder Dasun Wijesinghe, who believes in creating a platform where people from all walks of life can be recognised and celebrated.

Cinnamon Grand Colombo has pledged ongoing support, committing proceeds from this year’s event to their Meals on Wheels initiative—an effort that began during the COVID-19 crisis and has already served 20,000 meals to those in need.

Beauty and wellness partners—including Ramani Fernando Salons, Quintessential Beauty Lounge, Christell Skin Clinic, Barrista Coffee, and Giva Colombo—are standing in solidarity with the movement, showcasing how industries can be champions of inclusivity.

Dr. Shanika Aresecularatne of Christell Skin Clinic noted that raising awareness about conditions like autism is crucial. “There’s still a long way to go in Sri Lanka. Inclusion starts with understanding,” she said.

From empowering stories to inclusive design, Walk to Equality is not just a fashion event—it’s a movement that dares to ask: What if beauty was about acceptance, not appearance?
