UAE relief team departs Sri Lanka after concluding humanitarian mission

The UAE Relief Team has departed Sri Lanka following the successful completion of its humanitarian mission, carried out in response to the severe impact of Cyclone and subsequent landslides.

The deployment formed part of the United Arab Emirates’ emergency response initiative, launched under the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to assist communities affected by the disaster.

During the mission, UAE relief teams delivered 116 metric tons of humanitarian assistance, including food supplies, tents, shelter materials and relief kits, aimed at easing the hardship faced by affected families.

In parallel, the UAE Search and Rescue Team conducted specialised field operations in coordination with local authorities, recovering the bodies of 20 missing persons and providing medical treatment to eight individuals with minor injuries.

The head of the UAE Relief Team said the UAE remains committed to supporting Sri Lanka and other countries affected by natural disasters, noting that humanitarian assistance remains a core principle of the UAE’s global engagement and its commitment to standing with affected communities until recovery is achieved.
