Flights across the United Arab Emirates began operating on a limited basis Monday evening as major carriers gradually restarted services after several days of disruption. Emirates, Etihad, and flydubai resumed some operations starting the evening of March 2.
The partial resumption follows heightened tensions in the region after a joint U.S.-Israeli strike on Iran, which prompted retaliatory actions affecting the skies of the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and other neighboring countries. As of Monday, nations including Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and the UAE had imposed at least partial airspace closures, leading to widespread flight suspensions, cancellations, and diversions.
The disruption has left tens of thousands of passengers stranded worldwide and brought much of the region’s bustling aviation network—which normally transports millions of travelers daily—to a near halt, particularly affecting major hubs like Dubai and Doha.
