SriLankan Airlines will expand its weekly service between Colombo and Melbourne to 10 flights starting 2 August, adding three new weekly flights to meet growing passenger demand and shifting market trends.
The airline highlighted that Australia is now one of the fastest-growing inbound tourism markets for Sri Lanka, fueled by leisure travel as well as visits by family and friends. The additional flights are part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in the region and enhance connectivity.
The new services will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, departing Colombo as UL608 at 14:10 hrs, arriving in Melbourne at 04:30 hrs the following day. The return flights, UL609, will depart Melbourne every Wednesday, Friday, and Monday at 06:00 hrs, reaching Colombo at 12:15 hrs the same day. This schedule ensures passengers can enjoy more time in Sri Lanka while maintaining convenient onward connections to other destinations, including India.
Existing daily services will continue, including UL604, leaving Colombo at 00:20 hrs and arriving in Melbourne at 14:40 hrs, with the return UL605 departing Melbourne at 16:10 hrs and landing in Colombo at 22:25 hrs. These flights provide smooth connections across SriLankan Airlines’ network, especially for travellers heading onward to India and beyond.
The increased flight frequency will offer the Sri Lankan diaspora in Australia more travel options, enabling them to visit family and friends with greater flexibility. Students studying in Australia will also benefit, as the expanded schedule aligns well with academic calendars and holiday periods, making trips home easier and more convenient.
Furthermore, the additional flights will enhance Colombo’s role as a regional hub, allowing travellers from India to connect seamlessly to Melbourne via Sri Lanka, with improved schedules and efficient onward connections. Overall, the expansion supports both leisure and academic travel while reinforcing SriLankan Airlines’ commitment to providing convenient, accessible services tailored to passenger needs.
