The electricity-sector trade unions described their meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake this afternoon (13) as “successful.” The discussion, held at the Presidential Secretariat, Colombo, focused on addressing key concerns of the unions.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, union representatives expressed confidence that the President would take appropriate action to resolve their issues. They also stressed that their objective was not to create conflicts or undermine the government.
According to the unions, the President pledged to hold a special session with the chairpersons and boards of directors of the newly established power sector companies later in the evening. During this session, he is expected to propose solutions to the unions’ concerns.
The union members further reported that the President has ordered the immediate suspension of external appointments for electrical superintendents and engineers in the new power companies, pending further review.
