Nawalapitiya Accident: Van Carrying Schoolchildren Falls Into Precipice, 13 Hurt

Thirteen schoolchildren were injured after a passenger van carrying students veered off the road and fell into a steep precipice in the Nawalapitiya area early this morning.

The accident occurred around 7.00 a.m. near Thispane Junction in Nawalapitiya, when the vehicle was transporting children from Kataboolawa to Harangala.

According to police, the van lost control and went off the roadway before plunging into the ravine, causing multiple injuries among the young passengers.

All 13 injured schoolchildren were rushed to the Nawalapitiya District General Hospital for medical treatment.

The driver of the van was also injured in the crash and has been admitted to hospital.

Authorities from Sri Lanka Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, while further inquiries are ongoing.
