President Anura Kumara Dissanayake outlined the government’s position regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking at a special media briefing held at the Presidential Secretariat last evening(5th), the President stated that Sri Lanka will maintain a neutral stance amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran.
He emphasized, however, that the government will continue to meet its international obligations and undertake necessary measures on humanitarian grounds. Dissanayake stressed that cooperation from all parties is crucial for achieving lasting global peace.
Commenting on recent maritime developments, the President confirmed that a second Iranian vessel near Sri Lanka’s territorial waters is carrying 208 crew members, who are currently being brought ashore to Colombo Port. The vessel is scheduled to be relocated to Trincomalee Harbour, he added.
Finally, the President urged all stakeholders to avoid using the current situation for narrow political agendas, calling for responsible and measured action during this sensitive period.
