On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made history by surpassing former Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling to become India’s longest-serving head of government, with 8,931 days in office. This total includes his time as Gujarat Chief Minister and as Prime Minister, edging past Chamling’s 8,930-day record.
The milestone highlights decades of continuous public service and leadership. Modi, the first Prime Minister born after Independence, has led his party to three consecutive Lok Sabha victories in 2014, 2019, and 2024. Reflecting on his journey, he noted the challenges faced in Gujarat—including earthquakes, cyclones, droughts, and political instability—which strengthened his resolve to transform the state into a model of governance.
Under his leadership, millions have been lifted out of poverty, and India has gained prominence on the global stage. Modi emphasised empowerment initiatives for women, youth, and farmers, while reaffirming his commitment to a “Viksit Bharat” guided by constitutional values.
