Emirates SkyCargo is expanding its footprint in India with the introduction of two additional weekly freighter flights—one serving Mumbai and the other Ahmedabad—reinforcing the airline’s more than 40-year presence in the Indian market. The expansion is designed to strengthen India’s trade links with global markets, offering an added cargo capacity of around 3,000 tonnes per week.
Boosting cargo links
At present, Emirates SkyCargo operates three weekly freighters to India—one to Mumbai and two to Ahmedabad—supplemented by bellyhold cargo across 167 passenger flights connecting nine Indian destinations. The new Mumbai freighter, scheduled to commence on March 4, 2026, will operate on a routing via Dubai and Singapore, while the Ahmedabad service will run as a non-stop, dedicated freighter from Dubai. These aircraft will primarily transport pharmaceuticals, fresh produce, perishables, and consumer electronics, reflecting strong demand on India’s key trade lanes.
Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, said the added services underline the airline’s long-term confidence in India’s trade growth. He noted that India’s strength in manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, perishables, and e-commerce continues to drive rising demand for dependable air cargo capacity.
Supporting bilateral trade
The expansion comes as the UAE-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) approaches its third anniversary, with bilateral trade volumes continuing to climb. Emirates SkyCargo plays a key role in this exchange, transporting weekly shipments that include hundreds of tonnes of pharmaceuticals and perishables, alongside garments, textiles, and a growing volume of electronic goods such as laptops, tablets, and mobile phones.
