Beach Expansion Plan Moves Ahead as Dubai Boosts Coastal Growth

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has announced that Dubai is moving ahead at full speed with a major Dh3 billion beach development initiative designed to strengthen the emirate’s position as one of the world’s most livable cities by 2040.

In a post shared on his official X account, the UAE Vice President and Prime Minister said the Dubai Beaches Development Plan aims to significantly expand the capacity of the city’s coastline, increasing its ability to host tourists and visitors by around 170 per cent. He emphasised that the project is part of a wider long-term strategy to enhance quality of life and tourism infrastructure.

Sheikh Mohammed noted that development work is continuing without interruption, with construction teams operating at full pace across multiple sites. He stressed that progress on the coastal projects “has not stopped and will not stop,” reflecting Dubai’s commitment to sustained urban transformation.

During an inspection visit, he reviewed progress at the Al Mamzar Beach redevelopment project, which is nearing completion. The upgraded beachfront is expected to become a major family-friendly destination, with the capacity to accommodate up to 7 million visitors annually across a 4 million square foot area.

The wider beach expansion programme is expected to enhance public access to coastal areas, improve recreational facilities, and support Dubai’s growing tourism sector. Authorities say the initiative is also designed to align with the emirate’s long-term vision of sustainable urban development and world-class infrastructure.

Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed that further projects will continue to roll out at an accelerated pace, adding that Dubai’s future development phase will be “bigger and more beautiful,” as the city continues its strategic push toward global leadership in tourism and livability.
