Filipino tennis star Alex Eala has achieved a new career high, breaking into the top 35 of the WTA rankings following the latest update on Monday.
The 20-year-old made the largest leap among players inside the top 50, soaring 16 positions to No. 31, surpassing her previous best of No. 40 set just two weeks ago. This rise was propelled by a remarkable run at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, where Eala bounced back strongly after an early exit in the Qatar Open.
In Dubai, she impressed with consecutive victories, including a commanding 6-1, 7-6(5) win over World No. 7 Jasmine Paolini of Italy in the second round, followed by a 7-5, 6-4 triumph against Romania’s Sorana Cirstea in the round of 16. Her run concluded in the quarter-finals with a 6-0, 6-2 loss to World No. 4 Coco Gauff, who was later upset by Elina Svitolina in the semi-finals. The tournament was ultimately won by World No. 5 Jessica Pegula, defeating Svitolina 6-2, 6-4 in the final.
Eala earned 205 WTA ranking points from Dubai, securing her 16-place jump from No. 47 and firmly establishing her among the sport’s rising stars.
