In a heart-stopping finale at the Royal Complex, Isipathana College defended their President’s Trophy title in the Dialog Schools Rugby Knockouts 2025, edging out Trinity College 12–9 with a last-minute try that sealed a dramatic win.
The Green Machine came out firing, dominating early possession and drawing first blood through a powerful set play initiated from a midfield lineout. Tighthead prop Lahiru Herath’s thunderous 30-meter run paved the way for playmaker Thenuka De Costa to create space with a deceptive dummy before sending inside centre Adithya Madushan over the line. Avishka Hiran’s conversion gave Isipathana a 7–0 lead.
Trinity responded calmly, capitalising on penalties with fly-half Shan Altaf narrowing the gap with two accurate kicks. Despite strong attacking phases from both teams, the scoreboard remained tight at halftime: Isipathana leading 7–6.

The second half was an intense arm-wrestle. Isipathana dominated territory but couldn’t convert their pressure into points, missing multiple penalty kicks. Trinity’s defense stood firm, and a superb drop goal from Altaf gave them a slender 9–7 lead with minutes remaining.
As the clock ticked down, Isipathana launched one final attack. Showing nerves of steel and quick hands, they kept the ball alive through several gritty pick-and-goes. Then came the moment of magic—Avishka Hiran’s slick offload found Yuvindu Kodithuwakku, who sliced through three defenders to score the match-winning try and ignite scenes of jubilation.
With this thrilling win, Isipathana College claimed their 13th President’s Trophy title, cementing their legacy in schools rugby.
