Passengers on an Air India flight from Chennai to Delhi faced inconvenience after a technical snag delayed the flight by over an hour, adding to the growing disruptions plaguing Delhi airport.
An Air India flight bound from Chennai to Delhi was delayed on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, due to a technical issue, causing passengers to be deboarded after waiting for over an hour. The aircraft, scheduled to take off at 11:20 a.m., remained grounded at Chennai airport while engineers assessed the fault.
According to NDTV, airline officials informed passengers that specific equipment needed to fix the technical snag had to be flown in from Delhi. The delay left many travellers stranded and anxious. While a 4:00 p.m. departure was proposed as the next option, several passengers expressed hesitation about re-boarding the same aircraft, citing safety concerns. Air India reportedly offered them the choice to switch to an alternative flight.
The airline has yet to issue an official public update regarding the delayed flight. However, the situation reflects broader travel disruptions stemming from last week’s operational chaos at Delhi airport.
Over 450 flights were delayed and multiple flights cancelled due to congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport, caused by a severe dust storm and rainfall. Travellers shared their frustrations on social media, with photos and videos showing overcrowded terminals and long queues, painting a picture of growing discontent among passengers.
Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) responded by assuring the public that operations were gradually stabilising. “Our on-ground teams and all stakeholders are working together to minimise any inconvenience to passengers,” DIAL stated on X.
Air India also acknowledged the complications caused by extreme weather conditions, cautioning flyers about potential schedule changes. “Air India advises passengers flying today to/from Delhi to expect potential disruptions due to heavy dusty winds forecast,” the airline posted on X.
IndiGo issued a similar warning, asking passengers to be prepared for delays due to air traffic congestion in Delhi: “Please expect a wait while flying to/from Delhi due to the ongoing air traffic congestion. We’ll get you moving as soon as we receive the final nod,” read the statement on X.
The Air India delay in Chennai, though stemming from a technical issue, underscores the broader challenges Indian aviation is currently facing amid weather-related disruptions and operational bottlenecks in Delhi.
