In celebration of Diwali, also recognized as Tihar by Nepali-speaking communities, Premier Jacinta Allan recently hosted a grand Diwali reception at the Melbourne Convention Centre. The event brought together more than 1,200 guests from various backgrounds to celebrate this vibrant festival. Diwali, often referred to as the “festival of lights,” is celebrated across South Asia and symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. The reception was a tribute to the cultural richness of Victoria’s communities and demonstrated unity by embracing the shared values that bind the multicultural society.
Premier Allan, along with other community leaders, extended warm wishes to all attendees, underscoring the importance of cultural celebrations in fostering unity and understanding. The event featured traditional lighting, vibrant decor, cultural performances, and a range of activities highlighting the beauty of South Asian heritage.
