US Embassy Cautions Travelers Over Abuse of Public Benefits

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka has issued a formal advisory to foreign nationals planning to travel to the United States, cautioning against the misuse of taxpayer-funded public assistance programmes.

The embassy stressed that any improper access or abuse of public benefits could lead to serious immigration and legal consequences for visitors.

According to the notice, individuals found violating these rules may face immediate visa cancellation. In addition, they could be declared permanently ineligible for future U.S. visa applications.

The warning forms part of broader efforts by U.S. authorities to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and prevent the misuse of public resources intended for eligible residents.

Officials further emphasised that adherence to visa conditions is mandatory for all foreign nationals entering the country, and violations could have long-term impacts on travel eligibility.
