UK PM has defended his decision not to join the initial strikes on Iran, emphasizing that diplomacy and negotiations are the best path forward.
Speaking at a press conference in , the Prime Minister said the UK remains committed to a negotiated settlement with Iran to end its nuclear ambitions, stressing the importance of de-escalating tensions.
However, the UK is strengthening its military presence in the region. Four additional jets are being deployed to , along with helicopters and other defence assets to protect British forces and allies.
The decision has drawn criticism from , who said he was “shocked” the UK initially refused to allow its bases to be used for the strikes. Despite this, Starmer insisted the UK-US “special relationship” remains strong, with intelligence sharing continuing around the clock.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high in the region after Iranian retaliation targeted several countries, including and Gulf allies.
