UK Police Arrest Eight Over Suspected Antisemitic Arson Attacks

UK counter-terrorism police have made eight additional arrests in connection with a series of suspected arson attacks targeting Jewish-linked locations in London, bringing the total number of people detained to 23, authorities confirmed on Tuesday.

The Metropolitan Police Service said seven of the latest arrests, carried out within the past 48 hours, are linked to an ongoing investigation into an alleged conspiracy to commit arson. Officers say the inquiry is being led by counter-terrorism units due to the suspected coordinated nature of the incidents.

Over recent weeks, six sites in London have been targeted in arson-related attacks, most of which are associated with the Jewish community, alongside one incident involving a Persian-language media organisation critical of Iran. While no injuries have been reported, the incidents have raised significant concern among community leaders and law enforcement officials.

Police noted that investigators are examining whether the attacks may involve individuals acting as criminal proxies, potentially hired to carry out offences on behalf of others. The possibility of external influence is also being considered as part of the wider investigation.

The latest arrests include several individuals detained across different locations in southern and central England. Some suspects have been released on bail, while others remain in custody in London as inquiries continue.

In one recent incident under investigation, a teenage suspect has been charged following an attack involving a container of accelerant thrown into a synagogue in north-west London. The fire caused smoke damage but no injuries were reported.

Authorities also confirmed that another line of inquiry relates to suspicious materials found near central London landmarks, prompting additional searches at properties in the capital.

Since late March, police have arrested multiple individuals in connection with the series of attacks. Several suspects have already been charged with arson-related offences, while others remain under active investigation or on conditional release.

Counter-terrorism officials say the investigation is ongoing and extensive, with multiple operational teams deployed to determine the full scope of the alleged conspiracy.

Senior officers have reiterated that all possible motives are being examined, including whether the incidents were coordinated and whether they specifically targeted religious or community-linked sites.

The case remains under active investigation as authorities continue to assess evidence gathered from multiple locations across London and surrounding areas.
