Iran Ceasefire Nears End as Trump Rejects Extension Possibility

US President Donald Trump has indicated that the current ceasefire arrangement with Iran is set to expire on Wednesday evening (Washington time), adding that it is “highly unlikely” he would agree to extend it if a new deal is not reached.

Speaking in a phone interview with Bloomberg, Trump said the truce initially planned for two weeks and beginning on April 7 would effectively come to an end mid-week if negotiations fail to produce progress.

“It’s highly unlikely that I’d extend it,” he said, stressing that he is “not going to be rushed into making a bad deal” and insisting there is sufficient time to reach an agreement.

When asked about the possibility of renewed conflict if talks collapse, Trump responded that he would “certainly expect” fighting to resume in the absence of a deal.

The former president has previously given mixed signals on extending the ceasefire, at one point offering differing responses when repeatedly questioned by reporters about a possible continuation of the truce.

As the deadline approaches, uncertainty remains over whether diplomatic efforts can prevent a return to escalation between the two sides.
