Tesla Cybertruck owner crashes into a house after owning it for just four hours

It’s understood a new, previously unknown fault, occurred with the accelerator pedal to cause the accident.

A new Tesla Cybertruck owner has crashed his car into a house after it’s alleged the vehicle’s brake didn’t disengage the accelerator.

Posting on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), user @bfreshwa said his Cybertruck – which had only been on the road for four hours – had accelerated unexpectedly, causing it to launch into a house.

The throttle was said to be completely unresponsive, meaning the truck’s brake didn’t disengage the accelerator.

“[The] truck accelerated and didn’t slow down, nor did it turn,” he commented on X.

“Skid marks for ~50ft, almost like one motor was accelerating while the other set of wheels locked.”

According to @bfreshwa, Tesla told him: “We have reviewed logs and due to the terrain, the accelerator may or may not disengage when the brake is depressed. As far as the back tire [sic] locking we are reviewing.”

It is understood to be a separate issue to the issue which forced Tesla to halt deliveries of the Cybertruck in April this year in which owners reported having problems with the accelerator pedal getting stuck.

In that instance, the fault was understood to not actually involve the pedal as such, but the aluminium plate covering it – which was allegedly sliding up while the driver was using it and becoming wedged in between the pedal and the plastic bulkhead.

Although the Cybertruck has been on sale in the US since late 2023, it was recently confirmed that the stainless steel-skinned electric pick-up will not be coming to Australia anytime soon, though one example is currently on a national tour with Melbourne the next stop.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk told investors earlier this month that while he is open to global exports for the pick-up, it would not be feasible to do so until next year at the earliest as the Cybertruck would require design changes to meet more stringent international standards.
