Sydney Childcare Worker Accused of Slapping Children During Care

A childcare worker has been released from custody after allegedly slapping two young children across the face at a Sydney centre.
A court today heard the incident unfolded as the children were trying to sleep.

It was nap time on Friday at Panania Montessori Academy and Jayendra Shahi allegedly slapped two young children across the face.

This afternoon he was released on bail after a night behind bars on two counts of common assault.

The court heard the incident was captured on CCTV.

Nine News understands a parent reported the alleged assaults.

Montessori Academy said: “Immediate action was taken, including standing down the educator and reporting the matter to the police and regulatory authority. We have since terminated the educator’s employment.”

The judge said Shahi faced very serious allegations and the primary bail concern was the safety of the victims.

The 24-year-old was banned from entering any childcare centre.

The Nepalese national, who was hoping to get permanent residency, was also forced to surrender his passport.
