Sri Lanka is grappling with the effects of severe weather, with authorities confirming two fatalities as conditions continue to affect several parts of the island.
According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), the deaths were reported from the districts of Batticaloa District and Jaffna District, as of 6:00 a.m. on May 15.
The DMC stated that adverse weather has disrupted daily life across 35 Divisional Secretariat areas spanning eight districts. Thousands of residents have been affected, with current estimates indicating that 3,475 individuals from 1,113 families are facing difficulties due to the ongoing situation.
Relief efforts are underway, with 104 people relocated to two designated safety centres for temporary shelter.
In addition to the human toll, property damage has also been recorded. Authorities report that 88 houses have suffered partial damage as a result of the harsh weather conditions.
Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, urging the public in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and follow safety advisories as conditions evolve.
