Starting from midnight on March 23, the cost of a 450-gram loaf of bread has been raised by Rs. 10, according to the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association. This brings the price of a standard loaf to Rs. 130.
The Association also announced that other baked goods will see a similar Rs. 10 price increase beginning from the same time.
Officials said the adjustment in bakery prices follows recent hikes in petrol and diesel, which were implemented by the Government in response to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East affecting global energy costs. The increase reflects the rising operational costs for bakeries, including fuel and transportation expenses.
Consumers across the country can expect the new prices to be reflected in stores starting today.
