The High Commission of India handed over a 214-tonne consignment of Bailey Bridge components to Sri Lanka on Monday, with the First Secretary (Economic & Commercial) presenting the shipment to the Road Development Authority Chairman and officials from the Disaster Management Center.
The consignment arrived in Colombo from Visakhapatnam on 24 February 2026 and is part of India’s broader USD 450 million Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Package, announced by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his visit to Sri Lanka after Cyclone Ditwah.
The bridges will be installed at several locations across the country, with technical assessments carried out by Indian Army engineers in close collaboration with the Sri Lankan Army and the Road Development Authority.
Previously, India had supplied four Bailey Bridges to Sri Lanka, two in Kilinochchi and two along the Kandy–Ragala Road, helping restore connectivity in difficult terrain, improving access for communities, and enabling the resumption of essential services and economic activity.
India continues to support Sri Lanka’s recovery efforts, strengthening infrastructure, restoring transportation links, and aiding affected communities.
