Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage has confirmed that Sri Lanka is actively consulting with the International Cricket Council regarding the appointment of an interim committee or authorized official to oversee the operations of Sri Lanka Cricket.
The government is treating the matter with urgency, with the President of Sri Lanka personally involved to help facilitate the discussions. Minister Gamage noted that several stages of a strategic plan designed to elevate Sri Lankan cricket and secure future successes have already been completed.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening the sport and explained that the ongoing dialogue with the ICC forms part of a wider initiative to safeguard Sri Lanka’s position in international cricket and prevent potential sanctions.
The Minister also highlighted that the government is developing a structural framework for a revamped administrative setup, emphasizing that these measures are aimed at ensuring the sport’s stability and long-term growth.
“The government’s responsibility is to advance cricket, and we will take all necessary steps to support its development,” Gamage said, underlining the President’s active role in guiding these efforts.
