The Department of Meteorology says the current rainy conditions affecting Sri Lanka are expected to continue over the next few days due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance near the island.
According to the latest weather forecast, showers or thunderstorms are expected in many areas of the country after 1.00 p.m. today (07).
Morning showers are also likely in the Western, North-Western and Northern provinces, along with the districts of Trincomalee District, Galle District and Matara District.
The Met Department warned that fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm may occur in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern and North-Central provinces.
Residents are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms as temporary strong winds and lightning may cause localized damage.
Meanwhile, thundershowers are also expected in sea areas surrounding the island.
Winds are forecast to be south-westerly with speeds between 25 and 35 kmph, while sea conditions are expected to remain slight to moderate under normal conditions.
However, the department warned that temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas could develop during thundershower activity.
