The Department of Examinations Sri Lanka has released the names of students who secured the highest ranks at the 2025 General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level examination across all major subject streams.
Top Performers by Stream
Biological Science Stream:
- 1st Place: Dilan Sanjana – Royal College, Colombo
- 2nd Place: Krishan Sasidu Namthara – Taxila Central College, Horana
- 3rd Place: Darshana Konesh – Sri Shanmuga Hindu Ladies’ College, Trincomalee
Physical Science Stream:
- 1st Place: Devendan Thirukumaran – Kilinochchi Maha Vidyalaya
- 2nd Place: Tharusha Gimhana Gamlath – Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala
- 3rd Place: Vinura Prasad de Mel – Sri Sumangala Boys’ College, Panadura
Commerce Stream:
- 1st Place: Subaideen Mohamed Fardhan – Kattankudy Central College
- 2nd Place: Senadi Dihasna Sumanasekara – Musaeus College, Colombo
- 3rd Place: Dileepa Sandaras Karunaratne – Bandaranayake College, Gampaha
Overall Performance and University Eligibility
Commissioner General A.K.S. Indika Kumari Liyanage stated that 62.64% of candidates who sat for the examination have qualified for university admission.
Out of 281,810 candidates, a total of 176,527 students met the requirements for higher education, while results of 111 candidates have been temporarily withheld.
A notable 7,477 school candidates (3.38%) achieved outstanding results by obtaining ‘A’ grades in all subjects. Additionally, 823 private candidates also secured straight ‘A’ passes.
Performance by Subject Stream
University eligibility rates varied across streams:
- Biological Science: 59.56% (school) / 58.43% (private)
- Physical Science: 63.96% / 61.59%
- Commerce: 72.02% / 66.29%
- Arts: 67.57% / 63.57%
- Engineering Technology: 64.85% / 62.65%
- Bio Systems Technology: 71.76% (school) / 70.24% overall
- Other Subjects: 55.39% / 51.45%
Provincial Performance Overview
The Western Province recorded the highest percentage of students qualifying for university admission at 69.42%, followed by:
- North Western Province – 68.48%
- Northern Province – 66.91%
- Eastern Province – 66.32%
- Southern Province – 65.69%
- Sabaragamuwa Province – 64.97%
- Uva Province – 63.53%
- Central Province – 63.04%
- North Central Province – 60.91%
