Sri Lanka Cricket (Sri Lanka Cricket) has extended financial assistance of Rs. 10 million to emerging javelin athlete Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, in a move aimed at supporting the country’s rising sporting talent beyond cricket.
The grant was approved under the guidance of SLC President Shammi Silva and the Executive Committee, following a formal request made by Minister of Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage.
According to an official statement, the financial support was handed over to the athlete at the SLC headquarters this evening. The initiative highlights SLC’s continued commitment to nurturing athletes across different sporting disciplines, not just cricket.
Officials noted that this programme is part of a broader strategy to encourage and empower promising sportsmen and women in Sri Lanka, helping them compete at higher international levels.
The support given to Rumesh Tharanga reflects increasing efforts by sporting authorities to invest in talent development and strengthen the country’s presence in global athletics.
