Rail Services Move Stranded People from Saudi Arabia to Abu Dhabi

In response to recent regional developments and disruptions to travel, Etihad Rail, in coordination with Abu Dhabi’s security authorities, has launched exceptional train services connecting the Al Ghuwaifat border area with Saudi Arabia to Al Faya Station in Abu Dhabi.

These services are intended to assist stranded UAE citizens and residents holding valid visas or residency permits currently in Saudi Arabia or nearby countries. The initiative addresses the exceptional circumstances created by the prevailing international situation in the region.

A spokesperson from Etihad Rail in Abu Dhabi told Gulf News that the operation is closely coordinated with government agencies and the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) to provide services whenever large groups of passengers are stranded due to suspended flights or postponed air travel.

The special service has already transported more than 350 passengers safely and efficiently, ahead of the official launch of passenger train operations. The initiative was conducted in close cooperation with authorities in Saudi Arabia, ensuring smooth processes, procedural integration, and adherence to high standards of safety and operational discipline.

Structured and secure operation

The service operates through a carefully organized system, implementing approved safety protocols and emergency plans to guarantee smooth and secure transport. Technical and human resources were allocated efficiently, allowing freight services to continue uninterrupted across the national railway network in accordance with official directives.

Matar Saeed Al Nuaimi, Director General of the Emergencies, Crises and Disasters Management Centre Abu Dhabi (ADCMC), said the operation highlights the national ecosystem’s ability to respond swiftly to evolving regional developments. It also demonstrates the strategic value of the UAE railway network, reflecting its reliability, efficiency, and operational readiness under varying conditions.

He added: “Operating the passenger service ahead of its official launch shows the flexibility and responsiveness of our institutions, redeploying resources effectively to meet urgent societal needs without affecting long-term operational plans or logistical security. This confirms our capacity to make timely, well-informed operational decisions based on real-time risk assessments in light of current circumstances.”
