Public Transport Alert: Route 143 Buses Halted Amid Strike

Private bus operators servicing the Hanwella–Colombo Route (143) in Sri Lanka have reportedly launched a strike, causing disruptions for daily commuters traveling between the two locations. The industrial action comes amid a disagreement involving bus operators on the Kaduwela–Pettah segment, specifically concerning passenger boarding procedures.

According to the Chairman of the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority, Gamini Jayasinghe, a meeting was held earlier today (March 9) with the relevant operators, and the authorities are expected to determine the necessary follow-up actions based on the outcomes of these discussions. Commuters are advised to stay updated on route 143 services until the situation is fully resolved.

The strike highlights ongoing tensions within the private bus sector in the region, particularly regarding operational rules and passenger management, and authorities have emphasized the importance of finding a solution that ensures both smooth transportation and fair practices for operators.
