Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya highlighted the growing partnership between Sri Lanka and India, welcoming increased Indian investments and tourist arrivals as key drivers of economic and cultural ties.
She made the remarks at a special reception hosted by the Sri Lanka India Society in Colombo on February 26, celebrating India’s 77th Republic Day and Sri Lanka’s 78th Independence Day. The event also featured the launch of the Society’s official magazine and the presentation of the book Port of Call to the Prime Minister and Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha.
PM Harini praised India’s ongoing support, including relief efforts during Cyclone Dithva and a long-term recovery package of USD 454 million, emphasizing that bilateral collaboration spans economic development, trade, energy, connectivity, health, education, and people-to-people engagement.
She reaffirmed India as Sri Lanka’s closest neighbor and vital partner, expressing optimism that stronger investments and tourism will continue to deepen ties between the two nations.
