A group of Buddhist monks and participants who completed the seven-day “Ehipassiko” Peace Walk in Sri Lanka departed the country this morning (29), marking the conclusion of the spiritual journey.
The delegation, led by Venerable Pannakara Thero, a Vietnamese monk based in the United States, left Bandaranaike International Airport at 7:12 a.m. on a flight bound for Istanbul, Turkey, before continuing onward to the United States.
The group comprised monks, lay followers, and a dog named “Aloka,” which drew attention throughout the journey. Upon arrival at the airport’s VIP lounge earlier in the day, alms were offered, while airport staff from multiple departments gathered to receive blessings.
Special arrangements were made to ensure the well-being of the dog during departure, with veterinary officers, airport police, and Sri Lanka Air Force personnel closely monitoring its condition.
The official closing ceremony of the “Ehipassiko” Peace Walk was held the previous evening (28) at Independence Square under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, bringing the week-long initiative to a ceremonial end.
