Kandy police have arrested nine employees of a private bank, including six male officers and three female officers, in connection with an alleged loan document forgery investigation.
According to police, the arrests were made by the Kandy Special Crimes Investigation Unit over accusations that forged loan application forms and loan agreements were prepared for loans issued through a private bank branch located on Dalada Veediya between 2012 and 2019.
The investigation began after the Special Crimes Investigation Unit received a complaint in 2022.
Authorities stated that the suspects were taken into custody on allegations of creating falsified documents as well as aiding and abetting the alleged offences.
The individuals, aged between 32 and 58, are residents of several areas including Kandy, Peradeniya, Katugastota, Pussellawa, Heerassagala, Kurunegala, Pilimathalawa, Halloluwa, and Gurudeniya.
After being produced before the Kandy Magistrate’s Court, all nine suspects were released on personal bail bonds of Rs. 500,000 each.
The case is scheduled to be taken up again on September 23.
