Pop star Kylie Minogue reveals second private cancer struggle

Kylie Minogue has revealed that she privately battled cancer for a second time after being diagnosed in 2021, keeping the news away from the public until now.

The I Should Be So Lucky singer, 57, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005, a health crisis that forced her to cancel a world tour and withdraw from a planned performance at the Glastonbury Festival. She later made a full recovery following treatment.

In her newly released self-titled Netflix documentary, Minogue disclosed that she faced another cancer diagnosis in early 2021, which she chose to keep entirely private.

“My second cancer diagnosis was in early 2021. I was able to keep that to myself… not like the first time,” she said in the film, adding that she has since recovered and is now in good health.

She explained that she did not share the diagnosis publicly at the time because she struggled emotionally and felt unable to speak out. Minogue said there were moments when she “didn’t want to leave the house,” describing the experience as deeply challenging.

Despite the difficulties, she confirmed: “Thankfully, I got through it. Again. And all is well. Hey, who knows what’s around the corner, but pop music nurtures me… my passion for music is greater than ever.”

The singer also revealed that she chose to keep her health battle private during the success of her 2023 hit Padam Padam, saying she did not feel ready to share such personal news while rebuilding her career momentum.

Minogue further reflected that her song Story from the album Tension was inspired by her experience, with lyrics referencing hidden struggles and personal resilience.

She added that the track helped her process that chapter of her life, describing it as a way to “mark that time” and move forward.

In promotional interviews for the documentary, Minogue said her diagnosis was discovered during a routine medical check-up and encouraged fans to prioritize regular health screenings.

“There will be someone out there who will benefit from a gentle reminder to do their check-ups,” she said, stressing that early detection played a crucial role in her recovery.

She concluded by expressing gratitude for her recovery and hope that sharing her story will encourage others to take preventive health seriously.
