Queensland MP Jimmy Sullivan, aged 44, served as the independent representative for the Stafford electorate in Brisbane’s northern suburbs.
Police were reportedly called to his Stafford home unit around 10:15pm on Thursday night, where officers discovered his body.
Authorities have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner to determine the official cause.
Queensland Premier David Crisafulli expressed condolences on Friday, describing Sullivan’s passing as sudden and extending sympathy to his family on behalf of the state.
He said that all Queenslanders shared in offering support and heartfelt condolences to the family during this difficult time.
Sullivan was first elected to the Queensland Parliament in 2020 as a Labor representative and previously served as assistant minister for justice and veterans affairs under former premier Steven Miles.
He was also the son of former Labor MP Terry Sullivan, who represented the same Stafford electorate between 2001 and 2006.
