India on Friday carried out a successful flight test of an advanced Agni missile equipped with a Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) system from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
The missile was launched with multiple warheads designed to strike different targets spread across a wide area in the Indian Ocean region, showcasing its enhanced strike flexibility.
During the trial, comprehensive tracking and telemetry support was provided by a network of ground-based and ship-based stations, which monitored the missile’s full flight path from launch to the successful impact of all payloads.
Officials confirmed that the mission met all its intended objectives, marking another milestone in India’s strategic capabilities.
The successful test highlights India’s growing ability to engage multiple targets using a single missile platform, strengthening its deterrence posture in a complex security environment.
The missile system was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) with contributions from various domestic industries.
The trial was observed by senior DRDO scientists along with personnel from the Indian Army.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated all teams involved, stating that the achievement significantly enhances the nation’s defence preparedness amid evolving regional and global challenges.
