Dubai Rolls Out Self-Driving Taxi Service

Dubai Taxi Company has officially introduced fully autonomous ride-hailing services, marking a major step in the emirate’s transition toward smart mobility. The announcement follows confirmation by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) that self-driving taxis are now being deployed in selected parts of the city.

The rollout, announced on March 31, initially covers Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, and is being implemented in collaboration with Apollo Go and WeRide. Around 100 driverless taxis have been introduced in the first phase, integrated into Dubai’s public transport network. Passengers can book rides through platforms such as Uber and the Apollo Go app.

The initiative also represents the first time the Apollo Go platform has launched its application outside its home market, marking a significant international expansion. Dubai Taxi Company confirmed that the service will begin with 50 vehicles in its first year, with plans to scale the fleet to more than 1,000 autonomous taxis in the coming years.

Residents and tourists can access driverless rides via the Apollo Go app, available on both Android and iOS devices. As the programme expands, booking options are expected to extend to additional e-hailing platforms such as Bolt and others.

The project supports Dubai’s broader Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to make 25 per cent of all journeys in the city autonomous by 2030.

According to Mansoor Rahma Alfalasi, Group CEO of Dubai Taxi Company, extensive testing over recent months has demonstrated the readiness of the technology, particularly in areas such as safety, reliability, and operational performance. This has strengthened confidence in expanding the initiative further.

With a fleet of more than 6,000 taxis and limousines and over 30 years of operational experience, Dubai Taxi Company said it will rely on advanced monitoring systems and data-driven operations to ensure passenger safety and service efficiency as the rollout progresses.
