Dua Lipa has filed a $15 million (£11 million) lawsuit against technology company Samsung, accusing it of using her image on television packaging without permission.
According to a complaint submitted to the US District Court for the Central District of California, the pop star alleges that Samsung used a photograph of her face across packaging for certain TV models sold in the United States. The filing claims the image was used without consent and was intended to boost product appeal by capitalising on her global fame.
Her legal team argues that the packaging was “designed to improperly capitalize on Ms. Lipa’s hard-earned success to promote and sell Samsung’s products,” and includes claims of copyright infringement, trademark infringement, and misappropriation of likeness.
The photograph in question is said to have been taken during Dua Lipa’s 2024 performance at the Austin City Limits Festival. The lawsuit states that she owns the copyright to the image.
The singer reportedly became aware of the alleged usage in June 2025 after social media users began circulating images of the product packaging, referring to it online as the “Dua Lipa TV Box.” Some users even suggested the branding influenced purchasing decisions.
The filing also references social media comments highlighting the singer’s commercial influence, with users noting they would buy the television simply because of her appearance on the packaging.
Lipa’s legal team further claims that Samsung ignored repeated requests to stop using her image and “cease and desist” from continuing the alleged infringement.
The case notes that the artist has multiple high-profile brand partnerships, including collaborations with Puma, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, as well as past work with Apple and Chanel. She is also a global ambassador for Nespresso.
Her most recent album, Radical Optimism (2024), continues to support her global commercial presence.
Neither Dua Lipa nor Samsung has publicly commented in detail on the ongoing legal proceedings.
