The United States embassy in Baghdad has reportedly come under a sustained barrage of drone and rocket fire, according to international news agencies Reuters and Agence France-Presse.
Iraqi security officials, speaking to AFP, described the incident as the most severe attack since the recent wave of strikes began, highlighting a sharp escalation in tensions.
Just hours before the assault, the US embassy had issued an updated security advisory to its citizens in Iraq. The alert warned that Iran-backed militant groups had repeatedly targeted the heavily fortified International Zone in central Baghdad, urging Americans to remain vigilant amid the deteriorating security situation.
