Injury Forces Two-Time Champion Alcaraz Out of Wimbledon

Two-time Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed he will not compete at this year’s tournament as he continues to recover from a persistent wrist injury.

The Spanish star, currently ranked world number two, first picked up the issue in his right wrist during the opening round of the Barcelona Open last month. The injury forced him to withdraw from the tournament and has since kept him sidelined from key events.

Alcaraz also opted out of the French Open, where he was the reigning two-time champion, prioritising recovery over competition.

Providing an update via social media on Tuesday, the 21-year-old said his rehabilitation is progressing but not yet at a level required for competitive play.

“My recovery is improving and I’m feeling better day by day, but I’m still not ready to return to the court,” he shared. “That’s why I’ve made the difficult decision to skip the grass-court season, including Queen’s and Wimbledon.”

He added that both tournaments hold special significance in his career and that missing them is a major disappointment.

Alcaraz reached the Wimbledon final last year but was beaten by Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who has since emerged as one of his biggest rivals on tour.

Despite the setback, Alcaraz had enjoyed a strong start to the season, capturing his maiden Australian Open title and becoming the youngest player to achieve a career Grand Slam.

However, his injury troubles have now ruled him out of both the clay and grass court swings, disrupting momentum in what was expected to be another dominant year.

The absence is also likely to impact the ATP rankings. Alcaraz recently lost the world number one spot to Sinner and could fall further behind, with the Italian in red-hot form after claiming three Masters 1000 titles on clay in recent weeks.

Alcaraz remains focused on recovery and has assured fans he is working hard to return to action as soon as possible.
