Bruno Mars Tops Albums Chart With ‘The Romantic’ in First Week

Bruno Mars has achieved a milestone with his latest album, “The Romantic”, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking his first full-length solo project to enter the chart at the top spot.

The album, his fourth solo release, earned 186,000 equivalent album units in its opening week. While Mars previously reached No. 1 with “Unorthodox Jukebox” in 2013, that record took three months to climb to the summit. Fans have noted that his 2016 album “24K Magic” peaked at No. 2, blocked by Metallica’s “Hardwired… to Self-Destruct,” and his 2021 collaboration with Silk Sonic, “An Evening with Silk Sonic,” also reached No. 2.

Billboard highlighted that the 13-year gap between Mars’ No. 1 albums is the longest for any living solo male artist since Paul McCartney returned to the top in 2018 with “Egypt Station”, which came 36 years after his previous chart-topping album. Vinyl sales played a significant role in the debut, with 10 vinyl variants contributing 48,000 units in the first week.

The album’s lead single, “I Just Might,” became Mars’ 10th No. 1 on the Hot 100, and it is expected to return to the summit in the upcoming chart release.

Elsewhere on the Billboard 200, Bad Bunny’s “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” remains at No. 2, followed by Morgan Wallen’s “I’m the Problem,” Don Toliver’s “Octane”, and Olivia Dean’s “The Art of Loving.” Megan Moroney’s “Cloud 9”, which debuted at the top last week, dropped to No. 6, while Gorillaz’s “The Mountain” entered at No. 7. Blackpink secured its third top-10 album with “Deadline” at No. 8, followed by Taylor Swift’s “The Life of a Showgirl” and Mitski’s “Nothings About to Happen to Me” rounding out the top 10.
