Lakme Fashion Week dazzles as Anamika Khanna presents a standout showcase

At Lakme Fashion Week, held in collaboration with the Fashion Design Council of India, renowned designer Anamika Khanna unveiled her latest collection under the AK|OK label, setting a distinctive tone for the season. The showcase brought together versatility, skilled craftsmanship, and a modern sense of glamour, creating a compelling runway narrative.

The collection centred on adaptable fashion, with pieces designed to be styled in multiple ways. Emphasising layering and ease, the garments reflected a relaxed yet assured aesthetic suited to contemporary lifestyles. Flowing dhoti-style trousers, asymmetrical ruffled tops, coordinated sets, and elegant floor-length gowns highlighted silhouettes that combined comfort with striking visual appeal. Each piece seamlessly bridged the gap between statement dressing and everyday wear, offering flexibility without compromising individuality.

At a deeper level, the collection explored the idea of beauty in unexpected places—much like a flower blooming where it is least anticipated. This theme translated into designs that embraced imperfection, emotional depth, and raw artistry. Hand-painted textures, irregular finishes, and asymmetrical details transformed perceived flaws into expressive design elements, suggesting that disruption and irregularity can create their own form of harmony.

Nature-inspired motifs and bold floral graphics were paired with detailed craftsmanship, including intricate hand embroidery, three-dimensional embellishments, and touches of traditional gold zari work. Vibrant hues and fluid draping further enhanced the collection’s visual identity, celebrating authenticity through imperfection while redefining conventional ideas of beauty.

The colour story played a key role in shaping the mood of the showcase. A gradual transition from soft neutral tones and earthy browns into dusty pinks and deep blacks created a layered, emotive palette. This progression added richness and depth, allowing the textures and silhouettes to stand out.

Surface detailing remained a highlight, with fine embroidery adding texture and refinement throughout. The collection also introduced innovative alternatives to fur, bringing movement and a subtle dramatic effect to select looks.

This season also marked the introduction of menswear within the AK|OK line. The new pieces mirrored the collection’s relaxed yet polished aesthetic, presenting modern silhouettes that complemented the brand’s signature style while expanding its creative scope.

Speaking about the showcase, Khanna noted that the collection celebrates inclusivity and sustainability, with careful attention given to fabrics, colours, and craftsmanship. She highlighted the focus on fluid silhouettes, versatile styling, and glamorous finishes suited for both special occasions and red-carpet moments, while also introducing a bold menswear segment tailored for the modern wardrobe.

Overall, the runway presentation reflected a design philosophy rooted in fluidity and adaptability. Each look encouraged personal expression, allowing wearers to transition effortlessly between different settings while maintaining a strong sense of identity.
